Dear Readers

God's word is for everyone. We created God's Big Promises Bible Storybook to make the great story of redemption and the glorious truth of the gospel accessible to the youngest among us. The language is both simple and clear for young children and biblically faithful. The illustrations are fun and engaging to capture the imagination, and they carefully reflect the cultural and historical context of the stories.

Our aim in this Bible storybook isn't just for kids to learn about God but to personally encounter him and his goodness, love, and faithfulness. We pray that as you read through God's Big Promises Bible Storybook with little ones, they will find a firm foundation in the God who makes and keeps his promises to all those they read about and to them too, young as they may be.

God’s Big Promises Bible Storybook seeks to tell each Bible story faithfully in such a way that it aligns with the original teaching intention of that passage of Scripture. It treats Scripture as divinely inspired and as one coherent story that reveals the character of God and his purpose to redeem his people. It aligns with our statement of faith. We are a non-denominational, international publisher, made up of people who are passionate about the Lord Jesus, his Word, his church and his gospel of grace. Motivated by this passion and our involvement in local churches, it is our privilege to produce biblical, relevant and accessible resources that will encourage you and your church family to keep going, keep growing and keep sharing your faith.

One of the unique features of God’s Big Promises Bible Storybook is that there are built-in “promise paths.” A promise path traces one of God’s promises, such as His promise to rescue, throughout the Bible Storybook. When a Bible story specifically relates to God making or keeping a promise, an icon is included on the page. You can follow a promise path as a specific reading plan, or simply read through the whole Bible Storybook and enjoy noticing a promise being made or kept whenever an icon appears.

As a storybook for very young children, we have carefully used words that will be easy for children of that age to understand. At the start of each story, you’ll find the passage or passages of Scripture that the story is based on, making it straightforward, if you’d like to, to read the passage from God’s word after you’ve read the storybook retelling. Every story has been checked for faithfulness to the original words of Scripture by experienced pastors and theologians.

Since the Bible does contain stories of death and where people suffer (not least, of course, the death of Jesus) this storybook does include such topics. But it does so in a way that is careful and sensitive to the young age of the children. For instance, the snake in the garden, while not portrayed as “cute,” is also not represented in a way that is scary. Some details in some stories (for instance, Rahab’s profession, or Samson’s relationships) are not included. Each story has been assessed for age-appropriateness by children’s ministry experts with decades of experience.

The emphasis of this Bible storybook is on telling each Bible story in a way that is both simple and engaging for children and faithful to the original text; and on seeing how God makes and keeps his promises, uniquely helping young kids to connect the individual stories of the Bible to its one big story that runs throughout. Through the “promises paths” and the promise icons on the pages, children will see how the specific stories in the Bible fit into the big picture of God making and keeping his promises. The illustrations are bright and engaging for children who are growing up in the 2020s while also being careful to be faithful to the original historical contexts, including featuring the diversity of characters that accurately reflect the variety of cultures in Scripture.
